Rhapsody's Summer Concert Band is a way to keep your band skills going through the summer while learning new techniques, repertoire and skills. Open to all instruments, this group will learn and perform classical and popular band/orchestra arrangements including combined symphonic orchestra pieces.

Come join us in a full ensemble choir experience! Students will get to explore multiple styles and genres of vocal literature. This is a MUST for ALL musicians! Part singing, ear training, ensemble practice, and vocal production will help ANY musician excel as a performer.

Jazz is one of the most requested styles of music to explore at Rhapsody. This is the class to learn to sight read and dive deeper into jazz styles, rhythms, chord progressions, and structures in a traditional big band setting

Summer Music Theory/Conducting: Unlock the Secrets of Music 

(Ages 10-14)

Level up your music skills and finally understand what all those notes, symbols, and squiggles actually mean. This fun and interactive 3-week course is perfect for young musicians who want to build confidence, boost their playing, and maybe even start creating their own music!  Across three sessions, students will journey from the basics of reading music to understanding how songs are built, and even try their hand at composing.

Week 1: Theory 1 – Notes, Rhythms & a Few “Accidental” Surprises

 Learn to read music in both Treble and Bass clefs, understand rhythms, and discover why some notes just can’t help being a little sharp or flat....

Week 2: Theory 2 – Keys, Scales & Musical Building Blocks

 Explore how music is organized using keys and scales, plus get comfortable with intervals (the “distance” between notes). No ruler required!

Week 3: Theory 3 – Chords, Progressions & Your Inner Composer

 Dive into chords and how they work together, then start creating your own musical ideas using simple composition and voice leading techniques. Yes, you’ll be composing!

Week 4: Intro to Conducting: Wave Your Hands… and MEAN IT!!

Ever wanted to stand in front of a group of musicians and magically make music happen without playing a single note? Welcome to Intro to Conducting, where your hands do the talking. In this fun course, you’ll learn the basics of conducting: keeping the beat, giving clear cues, and more. We’ll explore how conductors use gestures, posture, and facial expressions to lead an ensemble.

Advanced Musicianship & Score Study: From Player to Leader 

(Grades 8+ | Minimum 3 Years Playing Experience Required)

Ready to take the next step beyond just playing your instrument? Advanced Musicianship & Score Study is designed for experienced young musicians who want to deepen their understanding of music and step into leadership roles as conductors, section leaders, and teachers. This dynamic 4-week course goes behind the scenes of music-making, helping students learn how to read and analyze full scores, refine conducting skills, and develop the confidence to teach and lead others. Whether you dream of standing on the podium or helping your section shine, this course gives you the tools to make it happen.

Week 1: Score Study & Preparation

Learn how to read a full score (not just your part!) and uncover what composers really want. Explore techniques for marking, analyzing, and preparing music so you can lead with confidence.

Week 2: Intermediate Conducting

Build on basic conducting skills with more advanced patterns, cueing, dynamics, and expressive gestures. Develop clarity, control, and a conducting style that musicians can actually follow.

Week 3: The Art of Teaching

Great musicians don’t just play - they teach! Discover effective rehearsal strategies, lesson planning, and communication techniques to help others improve while keeping rehearsals engaging and productive.

Week 4: Leading a Lesson

Put it all together by planning and leading your own mini-rehearsal or lesson. Practice giving feedback, solving musical challenges, and guiding a group like a true leader.

By the end of the sessiom, students will not only be stronger musicians, but also confident leaders ready to make an impact in any ensemble.

Advanced Conducting Intensive Independant Study

High School Juniors, Seniors & Advanced Musicians by approval only (limited spots available).

Registration Requirments: Must be signed up for Performance Bundle OR any Mixed Bundle, AND full-session Intermediate Music Methodology and Theory add-on.

Step onto the podium and into the role of conductor in this dynamic 4-week immersive experience designed for advanced high school-age and older musicians. From the Podium goes far beyond the fundamentals, combining advanced conducting technique with real-world rehearsal strategies, all while working directly with a LIVE ensemble.

This course is built for serious musicians ready to lead. Students will refine their ability to communicate musical ideas with clarity, rehearse with purpose, and inspire an ensemble to perform at its highest level. Through hands-on podium time and guided instruction, participants gain practical experience that transforms knowledge into confident leadership.

A key feature of the program is weekly private conducting and rehearsal coaching with experienced staff. These individualized sessions provide targeted feedback, helping each student strengthen their technique, musical interpretation, and rehearsal approach at an accelerated pace.

Students will also perform regularly in at least two ensembles, giving them the valuable perspective of both conductor and performer. In addition, participants will observe a wide range of conducting styles and rehearsal techniques in action, gaining insight into different leadership approaches and strategies used by skilled musicians and educators.
